I likened the phrase to punctuation because I find myself reading how the captionist perceives dialogue. In naming a lull: The irony of quiet space between words is that they can’t be translated — that is to move from one thing to another — without filling space to emote quietness. Isn’t quietness the absence of everything? One might consider punctuation to be the best form of space making for sound. What if punctuation trips up? What’s your punctuation. Mine’s late?
